ADVANTAGES OF ENGLISH IN INDIA MUKESH GUPTA Our Country intends to grow into powerful nation she is trying to make progress in all spheres. To achieve this economic, social and political life of the people should be changed and to fulfill this people should be well award, well informed and knowledgeable. Not only this, they should be well conversant in the language that can link them with the outside world. English has been said to be the store house of scientific knowledge. Hence its knowledge is of great importance for the people of a developing country like India. India desires to be friendly to all its neighboring countries as well as others. To obtain this objective she has to explain and convince other that her point of view is correct. This requires an effective medium for the exchange of ideas; English language provides us with such medium. This is the language which enjoys the states of an international language. This language is generally understood in every country in fact the majority of countries of the world conduct their business through the medium of this tongue. India is a country where a number of regional languages are in use. The regional languages are quite different form one another so it is not possible for every one to know ten or fourteen languages. We do not have any common language at present except English. We can feel at home in any corner of the country if we know English language. Therefore, we should if we want to keep pace with the fast moving countries, scientific and technological fields. Research must be done in our land but our regional languages do not have enough in them to serve this purpose. Ultimately we have to depend upon English to produce first rate scientists and technicians. English must be taught to our people. For proper mental development it is essential that we should study the best literature of the world which is available in English either in original or in translation. If we want to share the feelings with others we must be ready to take the best from others which are generally available in English in original or in translation form. Moreover many a Youngman of this country go abroad for advance studies in deferent discipline therefore they need to acquire good knowledge of English. English must remain a compulsory subject until. Hindi replaces it without any trouble.
